Man Ordered to Attend Addiction Counselling After Being Caught with Drugs Worth £9,500
Andrew Everett, a 34-year-old man, has been ordered to attend addiction counselling after being caught with cocaine and cannabis worth £9,500 at his home in Cameronian Way, Larkhall. The incident took place on November 3, 2023, when police officers discovered the illicit substances during a disturbance call.
During the court hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court, it was revealed that Andrew Everett admitted to being concerned in the supply of the drugs found in his home. The prosecutor, Lewis Devoy, stated that the officers found cannabis in various rooms, along with digital scales, latex gloves, and money. Additionally, a significant amount of cocaine was discovered inside a safe, with a value of £2,000.
In total, 1.34kg of cannabis, valued at £7,500, was seized from the premises. Despite initially claiming the drugs were for personal use, Everett later confessed that all the drugs belonged to him. His defence agent, Elaine Rae, informed the court that Everett, a self-employed landscaper, has been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction and has been seeking help.
After reviewing background reports, Sheriff Michael Higgins imposed a community payback order as an alternative to prison. This entails Everett being under social work supervision for a year and completing 180 hours of unpaid community work. Furthermore, he will have to adhere to an electronic tagging order, restricting him from leaving his home each night for 11 weeks. The Crown is also pursuing action against Everett under the Proceeds of Crime Act, potentially resulting in financial penalties.
