SP Energy Networks Engages Local Community in Denny-Wishaw Project Consultation
SP Energy Networks is currently seeking input from residents and stakeholders in Lanarkshire regarding a significant project aimed at enhancing the electricity infrastructure in the region. The project, known as the Denny-Wishaw Network Upgrade, involves proposals to elevate the voltage of electricity transmission across a 35km stretch by replacing existing cables with higher capacity ones and refurbishing existing pylons. Additionally, five substations are set to be expanded to bolster their capacity and enhance connections to the overhead network.
The energy company previously initiated consultations on the Denny-Wishaw project in 2021 and is now revisiting the plans to gather feedback from local individuals and organisations. Fiona Muir, Project Manager at SP Energy Networks, emphasised the importance of strengthening the UK’s electricity transmission network to enhance energy security and help achieve Scotland and the UK’s net-zero targets. She highlighted the essential role of engaging with local communities and encouraged residents to participate in public exhibitions or reach out directly to provide their views.
