Teen Found Guilty of Attempted Murder Following Violent Attack on School Grounds
A 16-year-old has been convicted of attempted murder after a harrowing incident unfolded at William Stukeley Church of England Primary School in Holbeach. The victim, also 16 years old, was discovered partially concealed under a bush with severe injuries that included lacerations to his neck and abdomen, a haemorrhage in the left eye, and a fractured eye socket. The events leading up to this brutal attack transpired on Sunday, July 28, 2024, after the boys had been consuming alcohol together.
During the trial at Lincoln Crown Court on Tuesday, January 20, it was disclosed that the victim had become unconscious due to intoxication while socialising with the defendant and another friend. The perpetrator allegedly abandoned the victim to escort the friend home and subsequently made a distressing phone call indicating his intention to murder the incapacitated boy. Prompted by concern, the individual on the receiving end of the call promptly contacted the authorities and divulged details of the alarming conversation, leading the police to the victim’s location.
Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the distress call and discovered the victim in critical condition, requiring immediate medical attention. The injuries sustained were inflicted by the defendant using a broken bottle, resulting in a life-threatening situation for the victim. Despite the perpetrator’s claim of confusion and lack of recollection about the incident, the jury unanimously reached a verdict of guilt.
The convicted teenager is scheduled to return to Lincoln Crown Court on Monday, March 3, for sentencing, where the nature and duration of the penalty will be deliberated. Judge Simon Hirst affirmed that a custodial sentence was inevitable, leaving only the issue of its length to be determined.
