Barrhead thug faces jail time for robbing teen in Paisley
A Barrhead man, Gary Young, is facing the possibility of jail time after admitting to robbing a teenager of a silver bracelet and attempting to steal another teenager’s mobile phone and jacket in Paisley. The incident took place during a bus journey on Caplethill Road in the town on October 1 last year.
Young, a 26-year-old, demanded the first teenager to hand over his silver bracelet while preventing him from leaving his seat. He subsequently robbed the teen of the item. On the same journey, he also threatened another teenager, demanding his jacket and attempting to steal both his jacket and mobile phone. These offences were committed while Young was already subject to three separate bail orders issued at Paisley Sheriff Court.
During a court hearing, Young’s defense agent requested background reports and reserved mitigation. Sheriff Thomas Ward acknowledged the seriousness of the charges, noting that Young had only been in jail once before. The sheriff ordered a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment. Sentencing was deferred for the preparation of background reports, and Young, described as a prisoner at Low Moss jail in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire, was remanded in custody until the court date set for February 14.
