Twin Groundskeepers Commemorate 40 Years of Working Together at Scottish School
Twin brothers from Edinburgh, George and Kevin McNab, are celebrating a remarkable milestone of working together for 40 years at Fettes College in Edinburgh. Their journey began in 1985 when they both landed groundskeeping roles at the college at just 16 years old. Following in the footsteps of their father, George Sr., who was a maintenance joiner at the college, the twins seized the opportunity to join the groundskeeping team.
Kevin is now the Head of Grounds, while George holds the role of Deputy Head of Grounds. Reflecting on their unexpected longevity in the profession, Kevin shared that their father informed them about job openings in the grounds team, leading them to start their positions on January 7, 1985. Despite not envisioning a long-term commitment to the job initially, both brothers express contentment and joy in reaching this milestone together.
Their shared experiences over the years have strengthened their bond as a team, with George highlighting how working alongside his brother has solidified their friendship. Working through promotions, technological advancements like the introduction of a robot marker named Lionel Pitchie for marking pitches, and forming lasting friendships, the McNab twins have created a legacy at Fettes College.
George even credits his job at Fettes College for introducing him to his wife, further cementing the significance of their four-decade tenure at the institution. Both brothers express their gratitude towards their colleagues, past and present, for making their time at Fettes College enriching and positive.
Looking ahead, Kevin and George intend to continue their dedicated service at Fettes College, with aspirations to remain for at least another decade. Their dedication to maintaining the college grounds to a high standard reflects their pride in their work and commitment to their roles.
In a heartfelt tribute, Estates Maintenance Manager Joss Kay commended the twins for their exemplary service in upkeeping the college’s estate, pitches, and paths. As respected members of the Operations Team, Kevin and George’s commitment to going the extra mile for the Fettes community is a testament to their dedication and work ethic.
The enduring partnership and shared experiences of the McNab twins underscore the value of long-term commitment, teamwork, and dedication in the workplace, inspiring others to find fulfillment and purpose in their careers.
