Highlands, Scotland – The mother of a Scottish toddler who tragically lost his life in a devastating car crash has expressed her dismay at the “shocking” sentence given to the driver responsible, reported the Daily Record.
In August 2021, 42-year-old Sonya Henderson was driving when she collided with a vehicle carrying Ashlyne Mackay and her two-year-old son, Iain, on the A99 between Latheron and Wick. The collision occurred after Henderson veered into the middle of the road on a bend, resulting in a fatal crash. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the scene, and little Iain was taken to hospital, where he later passed away just weeks before his third birthday.
Despite admitting to causing death by careless driving, Henderson escaped a custodial sentence. Instead, she was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work and a 25-month driving ban by Sheriff Neil Wilson at Wick Sheriff Court.
