Research conducted by Neighbourly revealed that 78% of the charitable organisations it assists expressed heightened concerns about meeting increased demands this past Christmas compared to the previous year. Additionally, 51% of these groups felt limited in their ability to fulfil every request for assistance due to constraints in capacity and funding. In response to these challenges, Aldi also contributed £25,000 to Neighbourly’s GoGive Christmas campaign, further aiding local charities across the UK and Ireland.
Aldi has been collaborating with Neighbourly since 2019, redistributing surplus food from all its UK stores to numerous charitable organisations throughout the year. The supermarket’s national sustainability director, Luke Emery, expressed pride in supporting essential charities that provide crucial aid to those in need, particularly during the festive season. In addition to these efforts, Aldi partners with Company Shop Group to redistribute surplus food from its regional distribution centres, including providing over 2000 complimentary Christmas lunches to Company Shop’s Community Shop social enterprise.
