A Scottish family recently celebrated their son’s 7th birthday, inspired by the miraculous journey of their baby born weighing just over 3lbs. Callum Talbot, from Aberdeen, spent seven weeks in the neonatal unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital before being able to go home with his parents, Will and Michelle Talbot. Will, who works as a cranes and lifting technical authority at Apache, nominated the Archie Foundation to receive a generous donation of £40,000 as a token of gratitude for the support they received during their time in the neonatal unit.
The donation will fund a full Storz endoscope kit in the new Baird Family Hospital being constructed on the Foresterhill site. This equipment will enable medical staff to monitor and manage babies’ airways, particularly aiding those with breathing difficulties. Callum’s premature birth at 29 weeks and low birth weight marked a significant moment for his family after years of IVF attempts and a late miscarriage. The exceptional care and support provided by the neonatal unit staff, including the use of parents’ facilities and charity-provided accommodation, deeply touched Callum’s family.
The Archie Foundation, in partnership with NHS Grampian, aims to raise £2 million to enhance the facilities and care at the new hospital, offering top-notch fertility, maternity, and neonatal services to local families.
