Scots left in darkness for four days after Storm Éowyn promised power by tonight
Efforts are underway to reconnect 1,700 residents who have been without power for four days in Argyll and Bute after Storm Éowyn struck Scotland on Friday. Scottish and Southern Electricity Works (SSEN) has deployed hundreds of engineers to restore power to those affected, with a target to have everyone reconnected by Monday evening. The areas still facing power outages are mainly in Argyll and Bute, which experienced severe weather conditions under the Red Met Office wind warning.
Since the storm hit, over 90,000 customers of SSEN have been successfully reconnected, although challenges remain as high winds up to 100mph caused disruptions, property damage, and tragically claimed one life. First Minister John Swinney acknowledged the enormity of the task of restoring power, highlighting the impact of climate change. As part of SSEN’s assistance programme, customers without power for more than 12 hours are entitled to claim £30 per person for each day without electricity to offset food and drink expenses. Applications for reimbursements can be made through the SSEN website to ease the financial burden on those impacted by the prolonged power outage.
