Wishaw-based Chris’s House Celebrates a Decade of Support for Those in Crisis

Chris’s House, a crisis intervention centre based in Wishaw, is marking its 10th anniversary with a series of events aimed at providing hope and support to individuals in need. Established in 2015 by Anne Rowan after the tragic loss of her son Christopher to suicide, the charity has been offering non-medical crisis intervention services round the clock, making it the first of its kind in Scotland.

To commemorate a decade of impactful work, a variety of events have been lined up over the next year. These include a Ladies Lunch at Dalziel Park Hotel hosted by radio DJ Gina McKie, the Glasgow Kiltwalk, a thrilling zip slide across the Clyde, the Darkness into Light Ball at Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow, and the annual Walk of Hope in Glasgow.

The Walk of Hope, scheduled for May 10, will see participants embark on a 5K route along the River Clyde in the darkness, symbolizing the journey from despair to hope as the daylight breaks. It serves as a poignant reminder that light follows even the darkest moments, honouring those lost to suicide while spreading awareness about mental health.

Rab Cole, who has personally experienced the devastating impact of suicide losing three close individuals, is a staunch supporter of Chris’s House. He has been instrumental in reviving the Walk of Hope event in Lothian, in addition to raising funds for the charity through various challenges. Rab’s commitment to mental health advocacy is driven by his deep personal connection to the cause.

Anne Rowan, the founder of Chris’s House, expressed gratitude for Rab’s efforts in organising the Walk of Hope event in Midlothian, highlighting the importance of community support in tackling mental health issues. As the charity celebrates its 10th year milestone, special events and initiatives are planned to further its mission of providing crucial support to those experiencing crisis.

For individuals struggling with suicidal thoughts or in need of immediate assistance, Chris’s House can be reached at 01236 766755. As the charity continues its vital work, the ongoing support and engagement from the community play a significant role in fostering hope and resilience for those in crisis.
