Castle Douglas High School pupils putting best foot forward for town’s old folk

Castle Douglas High School Students Support Elderly Residents in Town

Castle Douglas High School students from the S5 health sector class are stepping up to make a difference in their community by organising a sponsored walk at Balcary Point near Auchencairn to raise funds for The Golden Day Club, a local charity. In addition to the walk, the students are planning to set up a healthy tuck shop in the school as part of their fundraising efforts.

The charity was chosen with the understanding that elderly individuals living at home often face isolation, and the funds raised will contribute towards providing musical equipment tailored to the needs of the senior members of The Golden Day Club. The students believe that music can bring joy and happiness to the older generation, hence their initiative to support this cause.

The sponsored walk, scheduled for February 6, will encompass a trek lasting an hour and 45 minutes at Balcary Point. Furthermore, the students will collaborate with the centre to paint stones for a well-being walk along the trail, promoting enjoyment for all visitors.

The healthy tuck shop event, featuring baked goods and smoothies made with the help of a smoothie bike provided by Wheels of Fleet, will take place on February 7. Those interested in supporting the students can visit the fundraising page at www.gofundme.com/f/p376c-sponsored-walk.

This compassionate initiative by the Castle Douglas High School students exemplifies their dedication to giving back to the community and supporting the wellbeing of elderly residents. The combination of physical activity through the sponsored walk and promoting healthy choices with the tuck shop underscores a holistic approach to fundraising for a meaningful cause.

In an age where community engagement and social responsibility are increasingly valued, the proactive efforts of these students serve as an inspiring example for others to get involved and make a positive impact in their localities. By focusing on the well-being of the older generation, the students are not only raising funds but also spreading awareness about the importance of supporting vulnerable members of society.

In conclusion, the Castle Douglas High School students’ philanthropic endeavours highlight the power of youth-led initiatives in fostering a sense of togetherness and care within communities. Their actions demonstrate that small gestures can have a significant ripple effect in creating a more compassionate and supportive environment for all.
