The roles, spanning an eight-week temporary period, involve the protection of ospreys and other wildlife species during the critical breeding season. The salary for these positions is £22,900 pro rata per annum for 17.5 hours of work weekly. Successful candidates will receive free accommodation in a lochside wooden eco-bothy, along with valuable training and the opportunity to gain experience in species protection, volunteer interaction, and public engagement.
Responsibilities for the appointed officers include monitoring breeding ospreys’ behaviour, safeguarding resident ospreys and their offspring, engaging with the public on regular reserve patrols, intervening when disturbances occur, observing beaver activity via webcams, and compiling end-of-season reports.
Ideal candidates are expected to possess a good understanding of natural history, species identification skills, and surveying capabilities, coupled with a keen interest in nature conservation. Physical fitness, a willingness to work in cold conditions, experience in bird monitoring, computer literacy, familiarity with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, a driver’s license, and a first aid qualification are highly desirable attributes.
