More than 1,000 properties in Dumfries and Galloway are enduring their fifth day without power as the recovery efforts from Storm Eowyn persist. The storm wreaked havoc in the region, with winds exceeding 90mph causing trees and powerlines to fall. Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) teams have been tirelessly working to reinstate electricity to homes and businesses in the area.

Despite facing challenging weather conditions over the weekend, SPEN employees have been labouring around the clock to restore power to thousands of customers in Dumfries and Galloway. As of Tuesday morning, approximately 1,300 properties in the region are still awaiting reconnection, scattered across various locations. The SPEN website’s map indicates the widespread distribution of the outages.

The majority of affected customers are expected to have their power restored by the end of the day. In the meantime, food trucks are operating in Whithorn and Mochrum to provide essential services while residents endure the outage. Aileen Rourke, SP Energy Networks’ Scotland distribution director, commended the teams for their dedication despite facing unprecedented challenges due to the storm’s impact on remote areas.
