Construction Worker Assaults Security Guard Amid Allegations of Filming Incident
A construction worker in East Renfrewshire has been ordered to pay compensation after assaulting a security guard at the Clarkston community centre. The altercation took place after the worker’s wife alleged that the security staff member was filming her.
Stephen McCulloch, a 46-year-old father, confronted the security guard and seized him by the neck following the accusation. The dispute arose when the security guard suspected McCulloch’s wife of filming him, although she claimed to be taking a picture of a nearby church.
The incident on August 10 last year was detailed at the Paisley Sheriff Court by Procurator Fiscal Depute Karen Yuill. Two security guards at the community centre noticed McCulloch’s wife in a car appearing to film with her phone. When confronted, she denied this and stated she was recording the clouds.
McCulloch arrived at the scene in a tipper van, confronted the security guard, and physically assaulted him before leaving with his wife. Police later located McCulloch and brought him in for questioning, where he remained silent.
In court, McCulloch’s defence agent explained that the accused’s actions were out of character and driven by his wife’s distress during the incident. Sheriff Eoin McGinty condemned McCulloch’s behaviour, emphasising that such violent actions could not be justified. Despite McCulloch’s lack of prior convictions, the sheriff ordered him to pay the victim £700 in compensation.
