Schoolboy raises almost 5k in month-long fitness challenge to raise funds for MND

A young schoolboy from Uddingston, Scotland, has shown incredible determination and compassion by raising nearly £5,000 in a month-long fitness challenge for motor neurone disease (MND). Harvey Dooher, aged 10, embarked on a remarkable journey of running 5 kilometers and doing 100 press-ups each day throughout January to support the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. Inspired by his father, David Dooher, who previously undertook a challenging fundraiser for the same cause, Harvey set out to cover a total of 155 kilometers and complete 3,100 press-ups by the end of the month.

The initiative was a part of the Doddie Aid campaign, which aims to raise funds for MND research and support. Harvey’s initial target of £250 was greatly surpassed as he managed to raise over £4,700 with a few days still remaining in his challenge. His dedication and perseverance have not gone unnoticed, with messages of support pouring in from individuals who have been touched by MND and are encouraged by Harvey’s efforts to make a difference.

In addition to the physical challenges he faced daily, Harvey expressed his desire to involve as many people as possible in his cause, urging them to join him in running a 5k and doing 100 press-ups to further support the charity. Throughout the month, Harvey’s father stood by his side, participating in the runs and providing unwavering encouragement. David commended his son’s unwavering commitment to helping others, highlighting that the challenge was always about making a positive impact in the lives of those affected by MND.

The remarkable fundraising efforts of young Harvey Dooher have garnered praise from various quarters, including Rob Wainwright OBE, founder of Doddie Aid, who commended Harvey’s resilience and determination in contributing towards finding a cure for MND. The annual Doddie Aid challenge sees thousands of participants coming together to raise awareness and funds for MND research, reflecting the collective strength and unity in fighting against this debilitating disease.

In conclusion, Harvey’s inspiring story serves as a testament to the power of compassion, resilience, and community spirit. His selfless actions have not only raised significant funds for a worthy cause but have also inspired others to join him in his mission of making a positive impact in the fight against MND. Harvey’s dedication and determination exemplify the transformative impact that individuals, regardless of age, can have when driven by a sense of purpose and empathy towards others in need.
