A momentous rocket launch in Scotland is poised to solidify the United Kingdom’s standing as a key player in the European space industry, according to the British Government. The launch, scheduled for later this year from the Shetland Isle of Unst, is expected to be a significant milestone in UK space exploration. The Tech Secretary, Peter Kyle, has revealed that a £20 million government investment has been allocated to support the construction and launch of the rocket from Scottish shores. The rocket, named Prime, is slated for a late 2025 takeoff from the SaxaVord spaceport in Scotland, which is one of only two licensed vertical launch spaceports in Europe. The Prime project, spearheaded by Orbex, has already generated over 140 highly skilled jobs in Forres, Moray, aligning with the government’s Plan for Change initiative. The official announcement of this new investment was made on January 29 at the European Space Conference in Brussels, underscoring the UK’s commitment to fostering a thriving space sector.
