Police in East Kilbride apprehended a mobility scooter rider, Kinga Kramarz, who was found carrying a knife. The incident occurred when officers came to assist Kramarz, who was lying beside her scooter in the town centre. Kramarz, who had been drinking, explained to the officers that her scooter’s battery had died. During a routine search, a Stanley knife was discovered in her jacket pocket, leading to her arrest.
The case was presented at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where Kramarz, a first-time offender, pleaded guilty to possessing a bladed item without a reasonable excuse on September 29, 2023. The prosecution, led by Lewis Devoy, detailed how police responded to a report of a woman lying near an underpass. Upon locating Kramarz, officers helped her to her feet and discovered the knife during a search before taking her into custody.
During the court proceedings, Kramarz’s defence lawyer, Stephen McQuillan, attributed her possession of the knife to forgetfulness, suggesting it may have been among the tools she uses for gardening. Sheriff Mungo Bovey deferred sentencing for a year, contingent upon good behaviour, and indicated that Kramarz could be admonished if she complied.
