The fraud incidents involved two pensioners residing in the Western Isles. An 81-year-old man was targeted by the scammers who bombarded him with cold calls, eventually duping him out of approximately £85,000. The criminals managed to set up online banking using his details and redirected his bank statements and card. In a separate incident, a 75-year-old woman lost around £25,000 after attempting to purchase cryptocurrency. She was instructed to follow a link, leading to the scammers taking control of her computer and applying for several high-value loans under her name.
