Russian World Champion Skaters Named as Victims in American Airlines Plane Crash
Two world champion figure skaters have been identified as the first victims of the American Airlines flight that collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter over Washington DC. Russian skaters Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, a married couple and 1994 pairs skating world champions, were among the passengers on the flight from Wichita, Kansas. The tragic incident occurred as the plane was approaching Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to land, causing it to plummet into the Potomac River with 60 passengers and four crew members on board.
Reports indicate that 18 bodies have been recovered from the water following the crash, with a large-scale rescue operation involving around 300 emergency responders underway. The US Figure Skating organization confirmed that several of its athletes were also on the flight, returning home from a National Development Camp in conjunction with the US Figure Skating Championships.

Among the passengers was the wife of Hamaad Raza, who had sent a poignant message to her husband just moments before the crash, adding to the heart-wrenching nature of the event.
