Uddingston care home residents enjoy new fitness initiative

Residents at a care home in Uddingston have embraced a new fitness initiative aimed at promoting physical and mental wellbeing. The ‘Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign, organised by Renaissance Care, kicked off at the start of 2025. The initiative focuses on keeping residents active and engaged through a variety of enjoyable exercises including dance parties, step challenges, and throwing competitions.

At Rosepark Care Home, residents have enthusiastically participated in lively dance sessions that have fostered a sense of community. In January, residents and staff ventured outdoors to Strathclyde Park, where they enjoyed tandem bike rides side-by-side, offering a fun and inclusive way to exercise while soaking up the fresh air.

Isobel McQuade, an 88-year-old resident at Rosepark, expressed her delight at the tandem bike experience, stating it was something she had never done before but would love to do again. She highlighted the enjoyable afternoon spent at Strathclyde Park and the positive impact of the varied activities on the community spirit at the care home.

Renaissance Care places a strong emphasis on promoting the physical and mental wellbeing of its residents through tailored and engaging activities. The ‘Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign encourages residents of all abilities to participate, fostering a sense of connection and ensuring that everyone can enjoy and benefit from the initiative.

Yvonne Richardson, Operations Director at Renaissance Care, noted the enthusiastic response from residents towards the initiative and expressed excitement about developing more wellbeing-focused campaigns throughout the year. By incorporating regular physical activity into the residents’ routines, the care home aims to boost their overall health and wellbeing.

Renaissance Care is a national provider of quality, personalised care across various care homes in Scotland, prioritising individual needs and fostering independence and dignity. The ‘Get Fit and Have Fun’ campaign is just one of the many initiatives undertaken by Renaissance Care to enhance the lives of its residents through engaging activities that promote wellbeing and connectivity.
