Debbie, the daughter of the heroic school teacher Gwen Mayor, who tragically lost her life in the Dunblane Tragedy, is campaigning for her late mother to be posthumously honoured with the George Cross. Gwen Mayor bravely sacrificed her life to shield her primary one pupils at Dunblane Primary School during a heinous attack on March 13, 1996. Debbie plans to write a letter to King Charles, advocating for the UK’s highest civilian gallantry award to be bestowed upon her mother in recognition of her selfless act of heroism that saved lives.

The George Cross, established in 1940, is equivalent in honour to the prestigious Victoria Cross awarded for outstanding courage and bravery in perilous circumstances.
