Progress Made Towards Resuming Work on Supported Housing Project in Livingston
Efforts are underway to restart work on a project aimed at delivering Supported Housing for Young People and additional affordable housing at Almondvale Crescent in Livingston. The project, overseen by Hub South East on behalf of West Lothian Council, faced a pause after the main construction contractor, Connect Modular, encountered financial challenges.
An update presented at an upcoming West Lothian Council Executive meeting reveals that council officials have been collaborating with Hub South East to swiftly resume construction activities and mitigate any setbacks caused by the contractor’s financial difficulties. Hub South East is currently in discussions with alternative contractors, with hopes of appointing a new contractor soon to complete the remaining construction phases of the project, facilitating its timely completion.
The supported housing component of the initiative comprises 28 one-bedroom flats, including 16 flats designed for potential conversion into mainstream housing in the future. The plan also includes flexible office space for up to ten staff members, coupled with overnight accommodation for staff, ensuring dedicated support for young residents while offering privacy. Additionally, the affordable housing segment will introduce 20 units featuring a mix of two and three-bedroom houses and flats.
Aside from this project, the council’s Housing Capital Investment Programme for 2024/25 is progressing well, with construction advancing at sites in Livingston and Linlithgow, set to contribute an extra 80 homes to the council’s social housing inventory by summer 2026. Significant investments are also earmarked to upgrade housing standards, enhance energy efficiency, and expand housing availability for residents in West Lothian.
