A pregnant woman suffered a spinal fracture after a collision on a busy commuter road in East Renfrewshire. On March 29, 2023, John McLean, a transport manager, crashed his van into a stationary Fiat 500 with its hazard lights on near the M77. The 14-week pregnant driver of the Fiat 500 was seriously injured in the incident. McLean, appearing at Paisley Sheriff Court, admitted to causing “serious injury” to the woman due to driving without “due care and attention”. Despite being unable to recall the crash, McLean acknowledged his role in the collision.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that the victim was driving west on the A726 Glasgow Orbital Road towards the M77 when her Fiat 500 malfunctioned, and she activated her hazard lights.
