Lothian Buses Employees Celebrate Conclusion of Partnership with Local Carer Group

Lothian Buses staff recently commemorated the end of a two-year partnership with VOCAL (Voice of Carers Across Lothian) in a memorable style. The collaboration culminated in the introduction of a Carer’s Passport, designed to provide essential support to colleagues who have caring responsibilities. The Carer’s Passport is a dynamic document that outlines the accommodations required to assist Lothian employees fulfilling unpaid carer roles. It serves as a tool for carers and their managers to engage in supportive and meaningful discussions regarding their needs.

During the two-year charity partnership, VOCAL worked closely with Lothian Buses to develop the Carer’s Passport while also delivering training sessions to managers across the company. Gaynor Marshall, Communications Director at Lothian, expressed gratitude for the unique collaboration with VOCAL, highlighting the impact of raising awareness about unpaid carers in the region. The partnership has proven instrumental in promoting the vital role of carers and connecting them to crucial support services.

The partnership between Lothian Buses and VOCAL, initiated in early 2023, showcased the essential services provided by VOCAL within Edinburgh and the Lothians. Utilizing various fundraising initiatives, including Doors Open Days, charity challenges, and a sponsored skydive, Lothian managed to raise an impressive £11,500. The exposure generated through Lothian’s communication channels and the distinctive VOCAL bus contributed to a notable increase in referrals to VOCAL’s support services.

VOCAL’s Chief Executive, Rosemary McLoughlin, commended the impactful partnership with Lothian Buses, emphasising the increased accessibility of support services for unpaid carers in the region. The collaboration facilitated crucial conversations about unpaid care and significantly enhanced the support available to carers. Looking ahead, both organisations remain optimistic about future collaborations to further bolster support for unpaid carers in the community.

In conclusion, the conclusion of the partnership between Lothian Buses and VOCAL symbolises a successful endeavour aimed at supporting carers in need. The introduction of the Carer’s Passport and the significant funds raised stand as testaments to the positive impact of collaborative efforts in enhancing support services for unpaid carers.
