Households in North Lanarkshire leading the way in energy efficiency improvements

Households in North Lanarkshire are setting the benchmark for energy efficiency improvements, particularly crucial in the current cost-of-living crisis. Recent data from Ofgem, analysed by PE, reveals that North Lanarkshire has outpaced all other parts of Scotland in adopting energy-saving measures through the Great British Insulation Scheme. This £1 billion government initiative aims to assist homeowners in making their properties more energy-efficient and ultimately reduce energy costs.

Between May 2023 and November 2024, North Lanarkshire successfully installed 335 energy-saving measures, benefiting 291 households in the area. The significant number of measures installed in North Lanarkshire has put the region at the forefront of energy efficiency improvements, ahead of Glasgow City and Fife.

PE’s analysis of the data underlines the importance of enhancing home energy efficiency to mitigate rising energy costs and reduce environmental impact. Simple upgrades such as improved insulation, draught-proofing, and the installation of energy-efficient heating systems have proven to be effective in keeping homes warmer while saving on energy bills. Small adjustments like using energy-saving light bulbs, sealing gaps around doors and windows, and optimising heating settings can also contribute to long-term savings for households.

Furthermore, the focus on energy efficiency extends beyond residential properties to include businesses and commercial buildings. Energy-saving upgrades in commercial properties can not only reduce overhead costs but also enhance workplace comfort and demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Investing in sustainability, from better insulation to smart heating controls, is about more than just cost-cutting; it is about future-proofing buildings, ensuring environmental responsibility, and creating a more sustainable future for all. These efforts not only benefit individuals and businesses financially but also contribute to a greener and more sustainable environment for everyone.

In summary, North Lanarkshire’s leadership in energy efficiency improvements is a positive step towards tackling rising energy costs and reducing carbon footprints. By prioritising energy-saving measures and sustainability, households and businesses in the region are not only saving money but also playing a vital role in building a more environmentally conscious and energy-efficient community.
