‘Beastie House’ Paedophile Launches Bid to Clear His Name
A man convicted for his involvement in a paedophile ring operating out of a flat known as the ‘Beastie House’ is attempting to overturn his conviction. Scott Forbes, 51, was found guilty of filming the horrific abuse of children by six other members of the group. Despite claiming the children were lying about the abuse, Forbes was sentenced to eight years in prison following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
Forbes, also known as ‘Scott the Cameraman’ by the victims, has now instructed his lawyers to appeal both his conviction and sentence. During a previous hearing, Forbes alleged that the judicial system, police, and social workers conspired against him. He went as far as labelling one of the abused girls as ‘quite promiscuous’. The psychologist Dr. Angela Holmes revealed that Forbes was dismissive of the children’s accounts, accused them of falsehoods, and even blamed foster parents for coercing them to lie.
Other members of the paedophile ring, including Iain Owens, Elaine Lannery, Lesley Williams, Paul Brannan, Barry Watson, and John Clark, received sentences ranging from eight to 20 years along with orders for lifelong restriction. The trial uncovered multiple instances of violent and sexual assaults against two girls and a boy between 2012 and 2019. Reports of ‘rape nights’ and ‘dance and sex nights’ at the squalid ‘Beastie House’ in Glasgow, frequented by drug users, emerged during the trial.
Despite the children coming into contact with social services in 2017 and being deemed at risk in 2018, allegations of abuse only surfaced in 2020. The group, collectively receiving over £850,000 for legal defence, has incurred more than £1.4 million in prosecution costs. The Appeal Court in Edinburgh confirmed Forbes’ intent to challenge both his conviction and sentence.
