Dumfries & District Ramblers Embrace Outdoor Adventures for Health and Wellness
The Dumfries and District Ramblers recently embarked on a refreshing outdoor adventure to enjoy the crisp air and promote physical activity. Two groups of ramblers partook in the weekend expedition, engaging in invigorating walks amidst scenic landscapes.
The first group, comprising nine participants, embarked on a leisurely walk from Annan to Brydekirk along the river on a sunny Saturday. Along the way, the ramblers were delighted to spot numerous ducks and herons, enhancing their nature-filled experience. After the walk, the group gathered at a quaint gift shop for well-deserved refreshments and entertaining anecdotes shared by their leader, Kevin.
On Sunday, the eleven-member strong group journeyed to Wanlockhead, the highest village in Scotland. Despite facing strong winds and rain leading to poor visibility, the determined walkers persevered through the challenging conditions. Regrettably, the typically stunning views of the surrounding hills were obscured by the inclement weather. Nevertheless, the resilient walkers completed the trek and treated themselves to hot drinks and cakes at a local establishment in Thornhill as a reward for their efforts, with special thanks to Isabel for leading the walk.
Looking ahead, the Dumfries and District Ramblers have scheduled their next adventure walk for Saturday, February 8th, to Cairnharrow. This upcoming expedition is described as a moderate 4.5-mile route with 1300 feet of ascent, encompassing a circular trek from Laggan to Cairnharrow via Ben John, Barholm, and High Auchenlarie. This walk will traverse varied terrains, including tracks and open hillside, with one easy wall to climb under the guidance of the leader, Phil.
