Millennium Time Capsule Unearthed in Auchencairn, Dumfries and Galloway
In a nostalgic event set to spark excitement and curiosity, a Millennium time capsule buried in Auchencairn, Dumfries and Galloway, is scheduled to be unearthed. This treasure trove was lovingly prepared and interred by the enthusiastic youngsters of Auchencairn Primary School back in the year 2000 in the village’s Millennium Garden.
The long-awaited moment for the capsule to be dug up has finally arrived. Present-day students from Auchencairn Primary School will carefully open the time capsule on Thursday, February 6, at 1:45 pm. Subsequently, the contents will be taken to the Murray Hall for public viewing for the first time in 25 years.
Residents and visitors alike are invited to witness the unveiling of the time capsule contents at the village hall’s ante Room on March 6 and 20 from 11 am to 1 pm, as well as on March 15 from 11 am to 3 pm. The community is encouraged to offer suggestions for items to be placed back in the capsule for the next 25 years.
The selected artefacts will be exhibited in the hall during the Spring Fling weekend in May, culminating in the burial of a new time capsule in June, ensuring that the tradition lives on for future generations.
