Scottish Water has recently completed a £675,000 solar project at its waste water treatment facility in Bathgate. The initiative, part of the company’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2040, involved the installation of 792 ground-mounted photovoltaic panels. This solar scheme is anticipated to produce 0.3GWh of green energy yearly, which is equivalent to the energy needed to boil roughly 1.3 million kettles. In addition to meeting 12% of the site’s electricity demand, this renewable energy source is anticipated to save 63 tonnes of carbon annually.
The project was spearheaded by Scottish Water Horizons, the commercial arm of the public utility, and carried out by Absolute Solar and Wind, experts in renewable energy solutions. Keliann Arthur, the Project Manager at Scottish Water Horizons, expressed delight in the completion of the solar scheme in Bathgate, emphasizing its contribution to Scottish Water’s expanding portfolio of green projects nationwide. Neal Legowski, the Operations Team Leader at Scottish Water, highlighted the significance of integrating green energy into the waste water treatment process, underscoring the vital role of such initiatives in reducing carbon emissions and advancing towards achieving net zero goals.
