Lifeboat Crew Seeks Life-Saving Volunteers in Charity Recruitment Drive
Kippford RNLI is actively seeking new volunteers to join their life-saving efforts, with a special recruitment day scheduled for Sunday. The charity is looking to bolster its lifeboat and shore crew, with opportunities also available for launch authority positions.
Experience in maritime operations is not necessary as full training will be provided to all volunteers. Gareth Jones, the lifeboat operations manager at Kippford RNLI, highlighted the importance of commitment and a willingness to assist others in volunteering for the RNLI. He encouraged interested individuals to attend the recruitment event on February 9 to learn more about the rewarding opportunity of becoming part of the team.
To be eligible for volunteering, candidates must be over 18 years old and under 55 if joining the lifeboat crew. Physical fitness, proximity to the lifeboat station, and readiness to complete training requirements are essential, along with the ability to respond promptly to distress calls.
Laura Wilson, a current volunteer crew member, shared her fulfilling experience of six years with the RNLI. She emphasised the camaraderie, skill development, and the sense of reward from aiding those in need. Wilson looks forward to supporting and mentoring new recruits in their life-saving journey.
Established in 1966, Kippford RNLI operates a D class inshore lifeboat predominantly manned by volunteers. The upcoming volunteer recruitment day on Sunday from 10am to 12pm provides an opportunity for prospective volunteers to explore the station, interact with the crew, and gain insights into the role’s responsibilities and progression.
