Teenage Mum and Newborn Pass Away Hours Apart after Routine Scan
A heartbreaking incident has occurred as a ‘healthy’ first-time mum and her newborn baby tragically died just hours apart following a routine scan. Mellodie-Ocean Jarman, a 19-year-old mother, began feeling faint and dizzy on her way to the pregnancy scan on January 31. During the scan, she was informed of being ‘low on iron’ after complaining of her symptoms. Despite being sent home with medication and antibiotics, Mellodie’s condition worsened the next day in Greater Manchester, where she struggled to breathe and see. She was rushed to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where attempts to revive her with CPR unfortunately failed.
Following her arrival at the hospital, an emergency C-section was performed, leading to the early birth of baby Athena-Pearl, born seven weeks premature on February 2. Tragically, Mellodie passed away approximately an hour after the operation, and the family received the devastating news that baby Athena-Pearl wouldn’t survive.
Mellodie, who leaves behind her 18-year-old partner Daniel Darbyshire and grieving mother Justine Ryan, had family members present during the heart-wrenching moments. The family made the difficult decision to have a baptism for Athena-Pearl and placed her in Mellodie’s arms as her life support was turned off.
