Perth Runner Lewis Keep Tackles Ultramarathons

A Perth runner, Lewis Keep, has recently taken on a series of challenging ultramarathons as he approached his 30th birthday. Keep, who only started running in January 2024, has completed several ultramarathon events across the country, including the Sidlaw Ultra (69km), Glen Ogle Ultra (53km), and Ochil Ultra (80km). Despite missing the final checkpoint at the Ochil Ultra, Keep’s dedication to long-distance running remains unwavering.

Having celebrated his 30th birthday by running 30 miles, Keep shared how running has positively impacted his life both physically and mentally. He described the emotional journey of ultramarathons, stating that it provides a sense of discipline, purpose, and freedom. Keep emphasised the importance of overcoming the mental challenges and pushing the limits of human endurance in ultramarathon running.

Aside from his previous achievements, Keep continues to set ambitious goals for the future, including participating in upcoming ultramarathons such as the Sidlaw Ultra (43 miles), Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra (57 miles), and the Highlander Backyard Ultra in Blair Atholl. The backyard ultra marathon presents a unique endurance challenge with a looped course that runners must complete within a set time frame.

Despite his relatively short running career, Keep’s passion for ultramarathons shines through as he dedicates around nine to ten hours each week to training, covering an impressive 90-120km.
