North Lanarkshire Councillor Commends Community Boards as Projects Progress
In a commendable move, North Lanarkshire councillors have expressed approval for the introduction of community boards, as 16 new projects across the region have been given the green light. These projects have been integrated into the North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Board Local Development Programme, paving the way for potential completion in forthcoming financial years subject to budgetary allocations and public backing.
Murdostoun independent councillor, Robert John McKendrick, has welcomed the approval of various projects, including a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) in Newmains, alongside revamps of play areas at Waverley Drive in Coltness and Cambusnethan Memorial Park. This positive development reflects a commitment to enhancing recreational facilities within the local communities.
Councillor McKendrick lauded the progress, stating, “It’s very good news. I know that Cambusnethan Tenants & Residents Association have been advocating for a new playpark. However, funds have been allocated to renew playparks, benefiting Cambusnethan and Coltness. I’m thrilled with the new MUGA in Newmains. With the ongoing developments in Newmains, including new schools and a playpark, there is a palpable sense of excitement within the community, which is truly uplifting.”
These community initiatives extend beyond Newmains, with projects like erecting a living Christmas tree beside Craigneuk War Memorial in Motherwell, reflecting a holistic approach to community enrichment across various areas such as Airdrie, Coatbridge, and the Northern Corridor.
By fostering collaboration between local groups and the council, the community boards exemplify a proactive approach to improving amenities. Councillor McKendrick emphasised, “This collaboration empowers local groups, such as community councils and residents associations, to play a vital role in driving positive change.
