Scotland Named One of the Best Places Worldwide for Tech Start-Ups
Scotland has recently been recognised as one of the premier destinations globally for burgeoning tech start-up enterprises. Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes praised the efforts of the Scottish Government’s Techscaler programme, which has been instrumental in fostering the growth of tech entrepreneurs in the region. Launched in 2022, Techscaler aims to support tech founders in launching and expanding their ventures. Over the past two years, the programme has facilitated Scottish entrepreneurs in securing over £118 million in capital investment from a mix of private and public sources, benefiting businesses across various sectors such as medical technology, artificial intelligence, and space.
During a recent presentation marking the release of Techscaler’s Annual Report, Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes lauded Scotland as a top destination globally to kickstart a tech company. The report revealed a significant increase in the participation numbers, with the companies engaged in the programme nearly doubling from 502 to 978 in the previous year. Additionally, the number of individual entrepreneurs more than doubled, rising from 610 to 1,411. Participants in the Techscaler programme can access a range of advantages, including mentoring, training, and connections to potential investors and customers.
In a bid to aid companies in expanding into international markets, Techscaler organised two pop-up hubs in Singapore and San Francisco. For instance, Glasgow-based AI chatbot and messaging technology company, Konversable, participated in the Singapore pop-up event, where they secured £300,000 in investments over the year. Kate Forbes remarked, “The Techscaler programme is contributing to Scotland’s reputation as one of the best places in the world to launch a tech start-up.”
CEO and co-founder of CodeBase, the Edinburgh company behind the Techscaler programme, Stephen Coleman, expressed pride in the programme’s accomplishments. He highlighted the support provided to ambitious founders and startups in Scotland and the programme’s role in driving innovation and collaboration within the tech ecosystem.
