**Teesside Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Grooming and Raping Schoolgirls via Snapchat**
A 36-year-old man has been handed an 18-year prison sentence for the horrific sexual abuse of two schoolgirls, which he orchestrated through the social media platform Snapchat. Paul Black’s predatory behaviour included grooming his victims by offering money for sexual acts and ultimately driving them to an isolated industrial estate in Teesside, where the assaults took place.
During his sentencing at Teesside Crown Court, Judge Richard Clews condemned Black for taking advantage of the underage girls. In total, Black pleaded guilty to 28 offences, including eight counts of rape, in what has been described as a series of appalling crimes that exploited the vulnerabilities of young females.
The court heard that Black, unfamiliar to the victims prior to engaging with them online, had made contact with one of the girls through Snapchat, eventually luring her into his car. He would offer £200 for sex or £60 for sexual acts, and became aggressive when the girls expressed their discomfort. One victim recounted how Black referred to her derogatively and insisted she comply with his demands because he was financially compensating her.
The dark nature of his deeds came to light when one of the victims confided in an adult, prompting an immediate police investigation. Authorities unearthed evidence that Black had in his possession numerous indecent images of children, including a staggering 35 classified as category A, the most severe type of child exploitation material.
The emotional toll on the victims was plainly evident in the victim impact statements presented in court. One girl expressed feelings of paranoia and immense difficulty in her day-to-day life, while the other grappled with misplaced guilt, initially believing she was to blame for Black’s actions.
Despite having no previous convictions, Black’s history of sexual misconduct included three prior cautions for indecent exposure and sexual assault, underscoring a pattern of predatory behaviour. Judge Clews acknowledged the significant risk Black posed to the public, particularly young girls, designating him as a dangerous offender. His lengthy sentence comprises 15 years of custody plus an additional three years under licence.
In a critical comment, Detective Constable Sean Hobbs from the Cleveland Police remarked on Black’s predatory nature, highlighting the distressing ordeal the victims had to endure. He commended their bravery in reporting the abuse and stated that the prosecution aimed to ensure justice was served.
This case serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers young people face online and the importance of vigilance in empowering and protecting children against sexual exploitation.
### Summary

The significant prison time reflects society’s stance against such heinous acts, reinforcing the necessity for ongoing discussions about safe internet practices and child safeguarding. It is imperative that we continue to support victims in their hour of need and work collectively to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
