Police attacked in huge street brawl in Glasgow after bare knuckle fighting event at Hydro

### Violence Erupts in Glasgow Post-Bare Knuckle Fighting Event

**Glasgow, Scotland – November 8, 2026**: A chaotic scene unfolded in Glasgow late on Saturday night as police found themselves under attack during a significant street brawl that erupted following a bare knuckle fighting event at the OVO Hydro.

At approximately 11.10 pm, disturbances broke out in the Congress Road area, requiring an overwhelming response from law enforcement. Three police officers sustained injuries during the confrontation, with two needing medical attention after being assaulted while attempting to control the situation. In connection with the violence, two men, aged 27 and 32, were arrested and charged with various offences, including assault and obstructing police. They are set to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, November 9, while a third individual received a recorded police warning for threatening behaviour.

Footage circulating on social media captured the mayhem, showcasing groups of men engaging in violent clashes. Witnesses reported a swift influx of police vehicles, as officers flooded the area to restore order amidst the chaos. One local remarked on social media, “What on earth is happening in Glasgow? Absolute chaos,” while another eyewitness described the scene as a “major incident” with hundreds of men fighting.

This surge of disorder followed a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship event, headlined by notable fighters including ex-Rangers ultra Sean Weir and Leigh Cohoon. The evening was marred when Conor McGregor, a former mixed martial artist, made an appearance, and Irishman Conor Cooke’s last-minute withdrawal of participation added to the evening’s unrest, raising safety concerns among travelling fans. Cohoon’s bout ended quickly, resulting in a decisive first-round loss.

Chief Inspector Paul Daley voiced his condemnation of the violence against officers, calling it “disgraceful” and affirming that such behaviour would not be tolerated. He stated, “Being assaulted is not part of the job and it’s extremely fortunate [the officers] were not seriously injured.” Meanwhile, police continue to investigate the matter and urge anyone with relevant information to come forward by contacting 101 and quoting incident number 2029 for November 7.

In light of this incident, authorities stressed the importance of working closely with event organisers to bolster public safety, ensuring such events can occur without endangering the community.

This incident has raised vital questions regarding safety at public events and the underlying issues contributing to violence, highlighting a pressing need for effective strategies to prevent future occurrences.
