Burns, who played guitar on Michael’s classic hit “Careless Whisper,” described the singer as having a natural feel for music that cannot be taught. As the 40th-anniversary edition of the iconic track is set for release, Burns reminisced about working with Michael, who penned “Careless Whisper” with Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgley at the young age of 17.
“Careless Whisper,” released in 1984, remains one of Michael’s most significant hits, selling over six million copies worldwide and dominating music charts in 25 countries. Burns, a Scottish musician, was brought in by Wham!’s manager, Simon Napier-Bell, to contribute to Michael’s studio sessions following his work on Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” Burns highlighted Michael’s exceptional talent for bringing his musical ideas to life effortlessly and with precision.
Describing Michael’s unique ability, Burns noted that the singer often nailed the perfect take on his first try, a rare quality in the industry.
