Ayr Rugby celebrates a successful season in their latest annual report, showcasing their on-field achievements and off-field endeavors. The report highlights the club’s progress over the past year, including their community initiatives. Chairman Brian Williamson shared updates on the Millbrae redevelopment project, with phase one completed and phase two – the multi-sports pitch – currently in progress. Phase three, set to commence in Spring 2025, will feature a modern clubhouse with various facilities to enhance the overall experience at Millbrae.
The redevelopment aims to transform Millbrae into a hub of sporting activity, providing improved access and facilities for both players and the wider community. Significant investments, including a £3m contribution known as ‘The Macdonald Legacy,’ have propelled the project forward. The legacy, named after former player Barry Macdonald, has been vital in realising the club’s ambitious redevelopment vision.
Ayr Rugby’s first XV Gents clinched the National League One title, securing Premiership promotion, while the 2nd XV also achieved promotion. The club’s women’s teams have seen success as well, with the 1st XV Ladies claiming the West Region 1 title. The thriving mini and youth sections, boasting 300 registered members, have celebrated victories in national and regional competitions.
In addition to their sporting achievements, Ayr Rugby has expanded its community engagement, including the acquisition of Dam Park Stadium. The club’s commitment to youth development is evident through initiatives like the Scrum Academy and the integration of senior players into coaching roles. The Ayrshire Bulls, part of the club’s senior men’s section, have made significant contributions to Ayr Rugby’s success.
The club’s community outreach extends beyond sports, with initiatives like Walking Rugby and partnerships with local organisations and charities. Events such as the ‘Dash of Pink’ and the ‘Santa Dash’ have raised funds for various causes, demonstrating Ayr Rugby’s dedication to making a positive impact beyond the field.
The transition from a private club to a charitable organisation has enabled Ayr Rugby to access external funding sources and pursue its redevelopment plans. Despite initial challenges, the club has successfully navigated the restructuring process, thanks to the leadership of a dedicated Board of Directors.
