The incident occurred during their intense Premier League clash, resulting in both clubs facing consequences. Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson avoided a ban after he was seen pushing an opponent, Morato, in the face amidst a chaotic scene. He was held back by his team’s coaching staff during the altercation. Although Jackson escaped punishment after a review, both Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have been charged for failing to control their players.
The Football Association stated, “It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative way around the 88th minute.” The on-field referee Chris Kavanagh issued three yellow cards to players involved, with Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella and Levi Colwill, along with Forest’s Neco Williams receiving cautions. The brawl erupted when Williams pushed Cucurella. As a result, Cucurella will be suspended for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Liverpool after the international break, as he received his fifth booking of the season in the 1-1 draw.
Chelsea currently leads the Premier League’s disciplinary standings, with the most bookings this season at 27, surpassing Manchester United by three bookings after seven matches. Manager Enzo Maresca expressed satisfaction in seeing his team “fighting together” and dismissed concerns about disciplinary issues. Maresca stated, “For sure, there are things that we can control and do better, and probably this is one of the things. But the way they are fighting together, the way they are doing things together, I’m very happy.”
The deadline for Chelsea and Nottingham Forest to respond to the charges is Thursday 10 October. Chelsea is determined to maintain their discipline and continue their strong performance in the Premier League.
