Driving expert’s five ‘easy’ steps help you nail ‘perfect’ parallel park

A driving expert has revealed five ‘easy’ steps to help drivers master the ‘perfect’ parallel park. Parallel parking, often considered one of the trickiest manoeuvres to learn while driving, can be challenging even for experienced drivers. Many people struggle with aligning their car correctly before reversing into a parking spot. However, a social media account, @drivingtheoryuk24, known for helping people pass their driving tests, has shared a straightforward method to ace parallel parking in just five steps.

According to the driving expert, the first step is to find a suitable parking space that accommodates your vehicle’s size. Next, drivers should align their vehicle with the car they intend to park behind, maintaining a distance of 2-3 feet. The expert suggests matching the position of your car’s mirrors or brake lights with the adjacent vehicle for better alignment. Once in position, the driver should turn the steering wheel 360 degrees to the right and start reversing at a 45-degree angle.

As the driver continues reversing, they should aim to see the headlights of the vehicle in front in their left wing mirror. It is also important to ensure that your car’s right mirror covers the left brake lights of the adjacent vehicle. Then, the driver should turn the steering wheel fully to the left and pivot back into the parking space. Once inside the space, straighten the wheels and gently move forward into position to complete the parallel park.

This method simplifies parallel parking by breaking down the steps into easy-to-follow instructions. In the past, another driving instructor shared a ‘no panic’ technique for achieving a perfect parallel park. By imagining a gap between two cars on the left, the instructor advised signalling left, slightly entering the gap, moving forward past the space, and then carefully reversing while aligning with the neighbouring vehicle. This approach aims to communicate intentions to surrounding drivers, ensuring a smooth and efficient parallel parking experience.

Mastering parallel parking is a valuable skill for drivers navigating busy urban areas or searching for parking spots in crowded locations. By following these expert tips, drivers can boost their confidence and improve their parking abilities, making parallel parking a stress-free task in their daily driving routine.
