A former British soldier, Daniel Khalife, is currently facing trial for terrorism and espionage offences, alongside charges of escaping from Wandsworth prison. The 23-year-old allegedly made contact with Iranian security forces while serving in the Royal Corps of Signals, using his security clearance to gather sensitive information that could be used against the UK.
During the trial, it was revealed that Khalife reached out to MI6 through their website, expressing his desire to become a “double agent” for Iran. He claimed to have provided the Iranian government with a fake document hidden in a dog waste bag in Mill Hill Park. Despite his contact with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, Khalife asserted his intention to sell his services to UK security agencies.
After being apprehended by the police and released on bail, Khalife reportedly escaped from his barracks by leaving fake explosive materials on his desk. Subsequently, on 6th September 2023, while on remand at HMP Wandsworth, he managed to evade custody by concealing himself under a food delivery lorry.
