Two teachers at a Texas elementary school have been suspended after allegedly giving students special ‘stickers’ to make them sleep. The incident took place on September 24 and the teachers were promptly removed from the classroom pending a police investigation, as stated by the Spring Independent School District.
Upon being notified by a parent that their child had been given a sleeping aid patch in the classroom, the Northgate Elementary administration took swift action. The teachers in question were immediately removed and placed on administrative leave. In addition, two paraprofessionals from the same classroom were also put on administrative leave as a precautionary measure.
The safety of the students is of utmost importance to the school district, and any allegations of misconduct are taken seriously. However, parents at the school expressed dissatisfaction, claiming they were formally informed about the investigation only two weeks after the alleged incident occurred.
One parent, Lisa Luviano, revealed that her daughter showed her a sticker featuring images of a moon, stars, and clouds, which she referred to as a “sleeping sticker” given to her by the teacher. Another parent, Najla Abdullah, shared a similar experience where her son mentioned receiving a special sticker with similar images.
Both parents reported that their children faced difficulty sleeping after returning home from school. The SISD has not disclosed the identities of the teachers involved but confirmed that their actions violated the District Policy FFAC, which prohibits employees from providing students with any form of medication without authorization.
Parents are now questioning the duration of the alleged distribution of sleeping stickers and whether other children might have been affected. Trust in the teacher has been shattered for many parents, who are demanding answers and seeking reassurance about the safety of their children in school.
