New Zealand has broken a new world record for the largest mass haka, with a staggering 6,531 participants coming together to perform the traditional Maori war dance. The record-breaking event took place at the iconic Eden Park rugby stadium in Auckland, where the participants unified to showcase their cultural heritage and strength.
The powerful display was led by Michael Mizrahi, who expressed the significance of the haka to New Zealanders, stating, “It’s not just that we want to take it off the French, it’s like a national treasure that somebody has taken from us. It’s got enormous meaning for us as New Zealanders.” The haka performed by the participants was the renowned ‘Ka Mate’ haka, often associated with New Zealand’s beloved All Blacks rugby team.
The previous world record for the largest haka was held by France, with 4,028 participants in 2014. New Zealand’s achievement of surpassing this record not only highlights the country’s cultural pride but also symbolises unity and camaraderie among its people.
