In a significant development, a motion presented by Councillors John Denerley and Emma Jordan advocating for comprehensive access to fluent sign language in Dumfries and Galloway schools has taken a step forward. The proposal for bilingual education received unanimous approval at the recent full council meeting held last Thursday. Councillor Denerley, representing Dee and Glenkens and who is deaf himself, has been actively involved in advancing the council’s British Sign Language (BSL) initiative along with the inclusion of interpreters during council meetings.
