Gavin and Stacey fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Christmas finale of the hit TV show, but Alison Steadman, who plays Pam in the series, remains tight-lipped about whether Nessa and Smithy will tie the knot. The speculation surrounding Nessa, played by Ruth Jones, proposing to Smithy, portrayed by James Corden, has been mounting since the dramatic cliff-hanger of the 2019 special episode. Viewers are now wondering if a heartwarming wedding could be in store for the beloved characters as the show makes its return.

The comedy series, which follows the long-distance love story of Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page), has captured the hearts of audiences with its talented cast, including Larry Lamb and Melanie Walters as doting parents, and Rob Brydon as the lovable Uncle Bryn. Steadman recently appeared at the Cheltenham Literature Festival to promote her newly released memoir, ‘Out Of Character’, reflecting on her illustrious acting career from theatre to television highlights like ‘The Singing Detective’ and ‘Pride And Prejudice’.

When pressed for details on the fate of Nessa and Smithy’s relationship, Steadman jokingly mentioned needing “a couple of million” to spill the beans before firmly stating she couldn’t reveal any spoilers. Recalling the show’s journey from BBC Three to BBC One due to its increasing popularity, Steadman emphasised the efforts to keep the finale a surprise for fans. She shared insights into her character Pam, describing the dynamic relationships within the show and the touching gesture from co-star Mathew Horne.

Despite the persistent curiosity surrounding Nessa and Smithy’s future, Steadman remained adamant about keeping the details under wraps to maintain the element of surprise for viewers on Christmas Day. She highlighted the challenges of filming amid intense media attention and reiterated the creators’ desire to preserve the excitement for the finale. With fans eagerly awaiting the festive conclusion of Gavin and Stacey, the question of whether Nessa and Smithy will say “I do” remains a closely guarded secret.
