A Scots amputee has been left devastated after his “lifeline” £9000 motorhome was stolen, as a police investigation into the incident continues. Joe McSwiggan, a former black cab driver, has endured a challenging 14 months, which included hospitalization due to sepsis, two heart attacks, and a stroke before the recent theft of his campervan from outside the sheltered housing where he resides on Saturday, October 12.
Joe, aged 62, was informed by his cousin that his vehicle was missing from its usual spot, leaving him feeling disheartened upon realizing it had been stolen. Owing to his poor health, Joe has been largely confined to his house, only able to venture out for hospital appointments. He had hoped to use his campervan for a getaway once he felt better, but that aspiration has now been taken away from him. Expressing his anguish, Joe shared with Glasgow Live, “It was my lifeline which has been snatched away from me, I’ve been in tears all night. Please give me my van back, I’d like my life back.”
In a gesture of support, Joe’s friend Edward Black has set up a GoFundMe page to help improve Joe’s quality of life if the caravan is not recovered. Meanwhile, Police Scotland has confirmed that their inquiries are ongoing, stating, “Around 3.20pm on Saturday, October 12, we received a report of the theft of a campervan in the Harrow Court area of Glasgow.”
