Eddy Merckx admits Tadej Pogacar is ‘superior’ after ‘unimaginable’ achievement

Eddy Merckx has acknowledged Tadej Pogacar’s unparalleled talent, describing the Slovenian cyclist as “superior to me” following his remarkable achievement at the World Championships. Pogacar secured his first rainbow jersey with a sensational win in Switzerland, completing cycling’s coveted “Triple Crown” which includes victories at the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France.

Merckx, who was the first rider to achieve this feat in 1974 and only later matched by Stephen Roche in 1987, expressed astonishment at Pogacar’s 2024 success, which also includes wins in events like Strade Bianche and Liege-Bastogne-Liege classics.
