Armed suspect arrested at Trump rally insists he’s ‘an artist’ — not a would-be assassin

An armed suspect was taken into custody at a Trump rally in Coachella, California, but he maintains that he is an artist and not a potential assassin. Vem Miller, a 49-year-old US-Canadian citizen, was apprehended with a loaded handgun, shotgun, and high-capacity magazine at the event. Miller, a former journalist turned music video director, currently operates a website called the America Happens Network, known for featuring conspiracy videos about events like 9/11 and Covid-19.

Despite being labelled as a “lunatic” with “fringe” views by Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, Miller denied any malicious intent towards anyone at the rally. The Secret Service, FBI, and US Attorney’s Office confirmed that Donald Trump was not in danger during the event. This is not the first incident involving potential threats towards the former president, with a previous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania and a recent arrest in Florida.

Miller claimed he attended the rally at the invitation of the Nevada GOP and highlighted his support for Trump, citing his involvement in the Trump campaign and his pro-Trump content production. With a background in English and American literature, Miller asserted that he sees art as a powerful tool and that he was always transparent about possessing firearms for self-defense at rallies.

The suspect tried to gain VIP access to the rally by pretending to be a member of the press, but his actions raised suspicions among authorities resulting in his arrest. During an impromptu video statement released after his release on a bond, Miller expressed his plans to sue the officers involved in his arrest for defamation and creating a false perception of him as a potential assassin.

Miller, set to appear in court in January, maintains his innocence and claims that his only intention at the rally was to exercise his rights as an artist and a supporter of Trump. Supporters of Miller can follow updates on the unfolding situation as more details emerge surrounding his arrest at the Trump rally.
