A town in Massachusetts has taken action against a resident who projected a “Trump 2024” sign onto the side of a municipal water tower. Hanson officials have issued a cease-and-desist letter to the property owner, stating that the town does not endorse candidates or allow political signs on municipal property.
Hanson Town Administrator Lisa Green disclosed that the town became aware of the situation on October 11, when an individual projected a political sign in support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump onto the water tower. The town has refrained from revealing the identity of the resident involved.
Green stated on Saturday that such actions mislead the public into believing that the town supports or approves of the activity. Consequently, the town has decided to impose a fine of $100 per day until the projection is discontinued. These fines have been accumulating, according to town officials.
To counter the projection, Highway Department workers have installed a spotlight directed at the tower to obscure the sign at night. Officials expressed concerns that the resident’s actions could result in significant expenditure of taxpayer funds. This includes costs such as attorney fees, overtime pay for employees managing the spotlight, and potential expenses for obtaining or renting more powerful lighting equipment. It is anticipated that the $100 per day fine will not fully cover these additional costs.
