Husband charged with reckless homicide ‘after giving suicidal wife a gun to “call her bluff”’
An Ohio man has been arrested and charged with reckless homicide after allegedly providing his wife with a loaded gun, which she then used to take her own life. Michael Joseph Krupienski, aged 71, reportedly handed the weapon to his wife, 81-year-old Maria, when she threatened to end her life. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday at their residence in Vermilion, as confirmed by Vermilion Police Chief Chris Hartung to Fox 8 Cleveland.
Upon responding to the scene, authorities discovered Maria deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Krupienski informed officers that the couple had been drinking at the VFW in Avon before returning home. He disclosed that, under the influence of alcohol, Maria expressed suicidal ideations, especially with the approaching anniversary of their daughter’s suicide.
In a disturbing turn of events, Krupienski retrieved a loaded .357-magnum handgun and placed it in his wife’s hands as a challenge to “call her bluff,” according to police reports. Tragically, Maria used the weapon to end her life. Subsequently, Krupienski was taken into custody and now faces charges of reckless homicide, classified as a third-degree felony. His arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday morning at the Vermilion Municipal Courthouse, with Krupienski currently detained in the Erie County Jail without bond.
